Clay Creatures

3rd graders used their imagination and their knowledge of clay construction to build these clay creatures.  We started with a pinch pot shape and then added details using the additive technique (score and slip.)

Architecture drawings

3rd graders learned the term "architecture" as they examined buildings designed by architects all around the world.  They got to be their own architect and design their own building.

3rd grade- How we Express Ourselves

3rd graders examined the tree drawings and paintings of Piet Mondrian.  They learned the difference between realistic and abstract.  We examined trees and created our own abstract and realistic trees.

Pop-up books- in progress!

3rd graders are working on a unit with the central idea "artists can use their imagination to invent ideas for their art."  The unit is all about using your imagination to be innovative!  Here they were shown the "mouth" pop up technique.  They all used their imagination to invent a character to go with the mouth pop up. They will be making 4 pages total and then bind it into a book.   I will post the products later
