4th grade Business Cards

MY 4th graders are doing a unit about commercial art.  They are inquiring about all the kinds of art that exist in the commercial world.  Here, they made business cards.  They made them first on 9x18 paper, then I reduced them to 25% on the color copier (about the size of a business card) and then laminated them.  They are so cool!
The criteria required for them to make a self portrait,  list 3 things about themselves (a service that they provide) as well as a slogan and contact information.

How we Express Ourselves: Personal Narrative Collage

These are my 4th graders creating their personal narrative collages based on the art of Romare Bearden.  They really enjoyed this! they got an opportunity to write about their art afterwards.  As with many collage projects, it was hard for them to not draw on their art- only cut and glue!  This was a great lesson to inquire about human form and portraying spaces.

How We Express Ourselves: Molas

During a unit about cultural expression, 4th graders created these wonderfully symmetrical paper and yarn molas.  The criteria was that they had to choose an object from nature, it had to be symmetrical, and they had to use pattern and repetition.
