During a unit about Modern art and abstraction, students examined the grid paintings of Paul Klee. Using warm and cool colors to differentiate subject and background, students created their own grid paintings by first doing observational drawings of an object of their choice, and then painting it.

Who We Are
MY 5th graders made this collaborative painting last year. I still have it hanging in my room because we are all so proud of it! This was my first collaborative grid painting. I will do many more to come. It is very powerful for students to see their small piece contribute to an amazing whole.
